The Word "Dreams" dates
to the 13th Century. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the word
Dreams as: a series of thoughts,
images, or emotions occurring during sleep
Many believe that if you can learn to
"Interact" to "Control" what occurs in your dreams you
have achieved a level of awareness that can be utilized in your waking life
to view the many dimensions not always visible to the human eye. This
sort of interaction in life goes beyond being Psychic or Spiritual. It
puts into practice the laws of Quantum physics and can eventually change the
course of human evolution. (Also known as Lucid Dreaming)
Many People claim to not have dreams. At
least, they don't remember having them. There are 3 stages of REM that
sleep brings, the 3rd stage is usually around morning and as you are about to
awaken, its lasts the longest and therefore we are able to recall most of the
dream. The first two stages allow for dreaming also but
usually not to the degree that our memory will recall after waking.
So, if your one of the many who feels they do
not have dreams, remember that you are more than likely having dreams during
REM, but most likely not during the strongest 3rd stage.
Nightmares
Merriam Webster defines
Nightmares as the following:
Main
Entry: night·mare
Pronunciation: 'nIt-"mar, -"mer
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from [1]night + [1]mare
Date: 14th century
1 : an evil spirit formerly thought to oppress people during sleep
2 : a frightening dream that usually awakens the sleeper
3 : something (as an experience, situation, or object) having the
monstrous character of a nightmare or producing a feeling of anxiety or
terror
Its
very interesting isn't it that so many of us suffer from Nightmares.
Nightmares are considered by many to be a way of releiving the stress or
anxiety of our daily routines. Others feel that a Nightmare represents an
Omen of what is yet to come.
So
what exactly is a Nightmare? About every 90 minutes your brain switches
between non-REM sleep and REM sleep. The amount of time spent in REM sleep
increases with each sleep cycle through the night. The longest periods of REM
sleep occur towards morning. If you wake during this REM stage, it is easier
for you to remember what you were dreaming about. That's why your most vivid
dreams - and nightmares - occur in the early morning hours.
So
why do we have Nightmares? Stressful things that happen during the day can
turn dreams into nightmares. Nightmares may be a way to relieve the pressures
of the day.
Another thing that may cause nightmares is watching scary
movies or reading scary books, especially before you go to bed.
Sometimes if you are sick, especially with a high fever,
you may have nightmares. Certain medications also can cause nightmares.
